maui
Hawaii was top of the bucket list for my fiancé. We actively followed 'scott's cheap flights' and when we saw a flash sale to maui for ~$300 round trip, we had to jump at the opporunity. We stayed on the island for 8 days & 7 nights. We split the time between Kaanapali (3 nights), Hana (2 nights) and Waliea (2 nights). If I were to do it all over agin: I wouldn't stay in Hana and I would tack on days in Waliea. Hana, because of the location on the island, rained all day and there is no 'town' so there is no place to eat except for the hotels restaurant. Waliea is a beach town with lots of options for restaurants, shopping and more. Kaanapali is best known for its golf courses and tends to be a bit more family oriented.
INTINERARY
DAY 1: arrival in maui
DAY 2 : kaanapali
DAY 3 : lahania & surf lesson
DAY 4 -5 : road to hana
DAY 6 -7 : waliea
DAY 8 : departure
The first 3 nights on the island we stayed at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. The hotel is best known for Black rock beach (second photo) which is hot spot for snorkeling. The hotel also hosts a weekly luau - a big attraction for tourists.
After driving the Road to Hana, we spent 2 nights in Hana at the 5 star hotel: Travaasa Hana. This was recommended to us by a friend who spent their honeymoon here. While, it was recommended to us, I wouldn't necessarily do the same. If you must stay in Hana to break up the road trip, this definitely the best (and really the only) hotel in the town. However, it's in the middle of the jungle, rainy, and isolated. The only option for food is the hotels restaurant.
After Hana, we drove Wailea where we spent 2 nights at Wailea Beach Resort. We should've stayed here the whole time.. the resort was top notch, the views were unmatched and the weather was even better. Because we travel often, we got upgraded to the top floor. This was the view from our room:
